Botulinum toxin injections also known as wrinkle relaxing injections are the most effective way to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a brighter and more rested appearance.

These fine lines can typically be seen between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and around the eyes. We can also treat lines on your upper lip, nose, and around your mouth, chin and neck.

At &Alex we always aim to achieve a natural looking result, retaining some subtle movement rather than creating an expressionless face.

Downtime: Nil (small bump at site of injection present for about 20 min)

Procedure time 15-30 min

Longevity: average of 12 weeks (We would advise to allow the muscle to fully recover (return to full movement) before repeating the treatment)

What does the treatment involve?

Prior to any treatment with botulinum toxin, a full consultation is required. For new patients this will include a full medical history, facial assessment, and time to ask any questions you may have. The doctor will go through what to expect during the procedure and the potential risk. Photographs will be taken prior to the treatment. A tailored treatment plan will be discussed with the aim to provide the best possible results and a natural harmonious look.

The procedure will take 10-15 min and involves injecting small volumes of fluid using a very fine needle. The procedure is usually painless, but some patients may experience a small amount of discomfort. Topical numbing cream can be applied before the treatment if the patient’s wishes however this is not usually necessary.

A follow up appointment at two weeks is advised, especially as a new patient, so we can assess the need for any dosage adjustments.

How long do results last?

Results will generally last between 3-4 months. Those seeking more natural results with residual movement will find the treatment does not last as long but will offer a softer look. It is important to be aware that the effect of the wrinkle relaxing injections will begin to be noticeable 3-5 days after the injection. The maximum effect will be seen at 14 days after the injection and the effect of the drug will slowly wear off over the course of 12 weeks.

What happens after my treatment?

There is no downtime following wrinkle relaxers. There may be some slight redness and bumps in the areas injected but these will go down within 20 minutes.  Following the treatment, you will be provided with information relating to aftercare.
