About Skin Pen Microneedling

It works by stimulating the production of new collagen in your skin by creating controlled micro-injuries with very fine medical grade needles to stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process.

Microneedling is ideal for treating fine wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, and is also indicated to treat surgical and acne scarring. It can be used at any time of year on your face, neck, décolletage and hands, and is appropriate for all skin colours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the treatment involve?

Prior to the procedure a topical numbing cream will be applied for 30 min to reduce any discomfort during the treatment. Most treatments are very tolerable, and a slight scratchy sensation can be felt. The treatment itself takes 30 min. It involves cleansing and prepping the skin, then the needling device is passed over the skin piercing it with fine stainless steel sterile needles. The penetration depth is very shallow, usually only millimetres. Thousands of fine puncture wounds are created in the skin in order to induce the skin’s healing response. You will be provided with a topical gel to use after the treatment.

How long do results last?

The number of treatments depends on the indication; however skin needling is best delivered over a series of 4-6 treatments for general skin rejuvenation. More sessions may be required for scarred skin. The treatment sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Following a full course of treatment, it can take up to 6 months for results to become visible due to the production and synthesis of new collagen and elastin. Single maintenance sessions twice/ year can then be performed.

What happens after the treatment?

The microneedling treatment typically causes mild swelling and redness in the first couple of days following the procedure. It is like a mild sunburn with most of the redness and swelling gone within 2-3 days of your treatment.
