&Alex Dermal Filler Treatments

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps keep skin plump and hydrated. The results are temporary, lasting 6 to 12 months however studies using MRI imaging have shown that they can last much longer. The body gradually and naturally absorbs the filler. There are a variety of CE marked dermal filler products available. At &Alex only use temporary hyaluronic acid fillers which contain an anaesthetic called lidocaine to help minimise discomfort during and after treatment. We predominately use dermal fillers manufactured by Teoxane Laboratories in Switzerland. Teoxane dermal fillers first came on the European market in 2004, they have an excellent safety profile and are also FDA approved.

A benefit of hyaluronic acid dermal filler injections is that they can be dissolved using a prescription medication in the case of an adverse event, or if you simply decided you’re not happy with the result.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the treatment involve?

Prior to any treatment with dermal fillers, a full consultation is required. For new patients this will include a full medical history, facial assessment and time to ask any questions you may have. The doctor will go through what to expect during the procedure and the potential risk. Photographs will be taken prior to the treatment. A tailored treatment plan will be discussed with the aim to provide the best possible results and a natural harmonious look.

Treatment with dermal fillers often involves some discomfort. In the treatment of certain areas such around the mouth a prescription numbing cream will be used and left on the skin for at least 30 minutes prior to the treatment. The treatment itself involves the injection of the gel-like fluid through small needles or cannulas (blunt needle) into the areas. The doctor will then go through the aftercare information with you.

What happens after the treatment?

The effect is immediate, but some patients will notice increased swelling for 48 hours so the true effect may not often be noticeable until after that time. It may take 3 to 4 weeks for the dermal filler to fully settle into the skin. A follow-up consultation at this time is recommended to assess the results and determine the next phase of treatment.

There are some general precautions that should be taken to reduce the risks of side effects and to obtain the best possible results. These will be discussed with you and provided to you in the aftercare information leaflet.
